Freedom of Information

The purpose of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 is to increase democratic accountability within the public services by opening up decision-making to scrutiny. Thus the Act provides the public with a general right of access to recorded information held by Central Scotland Police, subject to certain conditions and exemptions.

We are committed to openness and transparency in the provision of services to the public, and it is our intention to publish as much information as possible on subjects where there is known to be public interest and where the disclosure of that information would be both lawful and appropriate.

The information provided here is organised in accordance with our Publication Scheme, and is delivered via the menu to the left of this page.

You should read the Publication Scheme prior to making a request for information, since the Scheme includes information on charging and copyright.

Data protection

You can, subject to some exemptions, ask for a copy of all information held about yourself by the Police. This process is called 'Subject Access', and costs £10 per request.

The Chief Constable will only give this information if he is satisfied as to your identity. He may not have to give you any information if someone else can be identified from it, unless that person agrees.

If you think that information might be held about you which may identify, or which may have been provided by, another person, you may want to get that person's agreement to enable the information to be given to you, and send it with your application.

If you wish to apply for information, download and print out the application form below, fill it in by hand and return the completed form to us along with the £10 fee, and proof of identity as shown on the form.
