House Alarms

Do the Police respond to all security alarm activation's

No. There are guidelines that have been adopted by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Scotland) as to when officers will respond. Briefly they are as follows:

Monitored Alarms. That is alarms that are monitored by Alarm Receiving Centres that are UKAS accredited. These will be treated as a priority. Should there be a total of four false alarms over a 12 month period, then this would be re-assessed and a Police response may be downgraded.

Bells only alarms. Due to the high number of such alarms that currently exist, only when additional indications have been received that a crime may be in progress or has occurred, will police attend.

My neighbours house alarm has been ringing for some time. Is this allowed?

Any external audible alarm sounder should cease after 20 minutes and alarms causing annoyance under the terms of the Control of Pollution Act may result in prosecution.

I would like to fit an alarm to my premises. Who do I contact?

Any security alarm should be installed, maintained, monitored and managed to current British Standards. Full advice can be obtained by contacting the alarms manager at Central Scotland Police Headquarters, telephone 01786-456000.
