Police Search Team
The Search Team consists of 55 trained officers and 4 licensed search advisors (POLSAs), with the support of the search co-ordinator, Inspector Bob McFarlane. All members are on normal operational duties and are brought together from throughout the force as and when required.
Search teams had been formed nationally following the events in Brighton in 1984. During a typical year the team will conduct around 60 separate searches, covering areas such as crime scene searches, major incidents and accidents, aircraft crashes, serious road traffic accidents, and missing persons.
One example of the search team's work involved searching the area of the Falkirk Wheel for security purposes prior to the official opening by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II in May 2002.
