Accident Prevention

Accident Prevention Unit staff provide the essential link between enforcement and engineering and education by working in partnership with the three local authorities to identify road accident hotspots and provide road safety advice.

Engineering, which is a longer term solution to accident hotspots is the responsibility of the local authorities who work closely with the police to seek solutions to reduce road accident casualties.

Education is a recognised factor in improving road safety and presentations are given at all primary schools and secondary schools on all aspects of Road Safety.

Various road safety campaigns were undertaken throughout the year and ranged from improving the safety of children employed in the delivery of goods such as milk or newspapers to parking outside schools.
