Best Value

Best Value is a Government initiative to 'deliver services to clear standards covering both the cost and quality by the most effective, economic and efficient means available'.

It aims to engender closer links between the work of service providers such as the Police and the priorities of local communities and also to encourage continuous improvements in local service delivery. Under Best Value the Force must make arrangements to secure continuous improvement in the way its functions are exercised, having regard to a combination of economy, efficiency and effectiveness.

Best Value requires a force to establish objectives, performance measures and review of all our services.

For each service provided, the Force will:

  • Challenge why services are provided in the way that they are;
  • Compare our performance against other similar providers of that service;
  • Consult with users and local community about their views of each service;
  • Decide whether someone else could provide the service more competitively.

Significant improvements in the way these services are delivered are expected on the completion of the review of the process.
