Training Development
This section is responsible for training police officers in the skills they require during the course of their duty. This includes investigative interview training, officer safety training, and tutor constable training, and custody officer training, as well as essential local training for probationary constables.
Special Constables receive initial training from members of the Training section, before they are posted to Operations Division who then manage these officers.
The initial training for Special Constables takes place during the evenings and, occasionally, at weekends over a period of approximately twelve weeks. Special Constables provide effective support to regular officers and their contribution to the work of the Force is highly valued.
The Training section offers a number of other courses, including Information Technology training intended to improve the skills of staff in this area, given the ever-increasing use of technology within the Force.
Although the training given focuses on police officers, many of the courses run are open to support staff as well.
