New recruits to enhance frontline policing in Central Scotland

Meet the newest recruits to community policing across Central Scotland.

The 22 recruits, who have been financed through extra Government funding streams, are currently at the Scottish Police College undergoing their basic 15 week training, before returning to Central Scotland Police for frontline deployment.

The force is continuing to seek new recruits over the remainder of the current financial year (ending March 31 2009) and has launched a new website specifically aimed at anyone who is interested in a career with Central Scotland Police.

The site - www.careeratcentral.co.uk - has information about the organisation, careers opportunities and how to apply to join.

The most recent intake of new recruits comprised of six males and six females with ages ranging between 18 and 40.

Deputy Chief Constable Iain MacLeod, who has strategic responsibility for Human Resources for the Force, said: "The addition of 22 new officers is a welcome boost to the ranks of Central Scotland Police. Communities tell us they want visible and effective policing and that is what we are committed to providing.

"Our recruiting does not end here however and we are looking for even more people to join the Force and become part of our ongoing success story in terms of delivering what has been recognised as high quality policing services to the public of Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire Area Commands.

"The launch of the dedicated recruiting website is a key part of drawing people to Central Scotland Police. As an officer with more than 30 years' experience, I can personally testify to the wide range of roles which can be undertaken within the police service and having recently joined Central Scotland Police myself, can point to the many positive elements of becoming part of a force such as ours.

"All of the additional officers recruited this year will be posted, following training, to community policing to increase the uniformed presence in Central Scotland's communities where the focus will be very firmly on tackling the issues of most concern, including addressing anti-social behaviour, violent crime and drugs with the aim of improving the quality of life for the people of those communities.

"This is an exciting time to be thinking about joining Central Scotland Police. As we face up to the challenges of policing in the 21st century, the force has embarked on an ambitious modernisation programme which aims to maximise the number of officers available for frontline duty as we strive to deliver the best possible service in the most intelligence, effective and efficient manner."

The site also contains information for transferees from other forces and about becoming a Special Constable.
